Doboy, a Bosch Packaging Technology company, unveiled its new TSC-090 tri seal paperboard carton closer at Pack Expo in Chicago this week.
The manufacturer said the machinery offers advantages over existing carton closure equipment in that its in-line closing technology is designed to close the top lid, major and minor flaps after gluing, while simultaneously maintaining the carton in a single forward motion.
“Many conventional tri-seal carton closers mechanically turn the carton during the closing process, creating the potential for errors and misalignment.
"By eliminating the turning process, the TSC-090 reduces the threat of malfunction and associated downtime,” claims the developer.
Operation efficiency
In the current economic downturn, manufacturers are continually on the look out for machinery that enhances production line efficiency and maximizes return on investment (ROI).
According to Drew Marshall of the global plant operational consultancy, Kepner-Tregoe (KT), the single biggest contributing factor to productivity loss is low overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
He said that one of the primary goals of OEE improvement is the elimination of the Six Big Losses which are: breakdowns; set-up and adjustments resulting in downtime; small stops; reduced speeds; start-up rejects and production rejects.
Applications
The TSC-090, according to the manufacturer, is suitable for applications in the food, bakery and frozen products sectors, and was developed for the middle to upper range food companies.
Doboy claims the closer can handle up to 90 cartons per minute, and can be used with a range of carton sizes.
It said that the machinery enables changeover between size parts within 15 minutes, with standard changes requiring no tools.
“Servo controlled machine adjustments guarantee repeatability and accuracy, and an open frame construction assures easy cleaning and maintenance,” added the company.
