Vinyl work gloves get metal detector treatment

A new line of vinyl gloves can be picked up by metal detectors, helping to ensure food safety in the plant.

Contaminants such as metals and plastics can spark off an expensive recall for a food company, which would also have to deal with damage to its brand and the subsequent loss of sales.

The gloves are the latest from E-Components and Chains of Pocklington UK, which uses its Detectamet material for products targeted at the food industry.

Detectamet can be picked up by the metal detectors used by plants to keep contaminants, such as machine parts, out of their food products.E-Components said its Blue Metal Detectable vinyl glove has been improved so that the detectors can more easily pick it out.

It is detectable in the electromagnetic range of 50Khz-1Mhz. This ensures that a small torn piece will not pass through metal detectable equipment to contaminate final product, the company claimed.

The glove meets both US and EU plastics safety regulations for intermittent contact with food, E-Components stated.
