Conveyor belt squeezes into tight spaces

A new food conveyor belt makes use of small spaces by handling spirals, tight curves and inclined grades.

Habasit says its plastic modular belt M3843 Tight Radius GripTop 1.5" can be modified to fit the space available in plants for conveying foods.

"In other words, you have one product for different applications, but you have fewer transfers and hence, continuously and smoothly conveyed goods," the company stated.

The inner radius of the GripTop is 1.6 times the width of the belt, a measure known as the collapse factor. This design allows it to take up 30 per cent less space than belt types with a collapse factor of 2.2, making it useful for tight spiral transport.

The belt is available in food-grade polypropylene and polyacetal. It can be used for conveying bakery, fish, meat, poultry, dairy, fruit and vegetables. It has a 4mm (.16") thick, positive-fit-to-module rubber.

On request the GripTop is available with steel rods, snap-in side guards or hold-down taps.

Habasit is headquartered in Switzerland. In 2005, the company sold €395m worth of belts globally.
