RFID applicator speeds up tagging process

A high speed radio frequency identification (RFID) applicator can tag up to 100 cases a minute, helping processors to speed up their production lines.

Markem's high-speed 800 RFID Encoder/Applicator is part of the spurt of new equipment and processes helping to boost the takeup of RFID at processing plants.

RFID has long been touted as the future of logistics for all companies by allowing retailers and suppliers to track goods throughout the supply chain. However high prices for tags and systems hasheld enthusiasm at bay. Privacy concerns have also limited its use at the consumer level.

Markem says its 800 series can be used for the beverage and consumer goods industries. The 800 series is EPCglobal Gen 2 compliant and provides users the ability to tag up to 100 cases per minute, the company claims.

The 800 Encoder/Applicator also allows processors to be flexible in where they place the tag on the product or case, allowing it to be used for a variety of goods.

The flexibility allows the equipment to more easily integrate with existing software, systems and equipment. It can handle all form factors of RFID tags, including the application of on-pitchinlays.

The machine can be monitored at a distance, and has configuration reporting capability.

EPCglobal Gen 2 is the new global standard for RFID hardware and software. It allows companies using Electronic Product Code (EPC) to track their products throughout their global supply chains.
