Shopfitting maximizes bakery appeal in supermarket outlet

European bakery shopfitter Berner Ladenbau was at the Anuga food fair in Cologne last week, where it exhibited a new line of equipment it is to fit in the bakery-cafe of leading German supermarket chain Edeka.

The company, which is part of the Hansa Kontor shopfitting group, claims to be the second largest bakery fitter in Germany. It will be fitting a Düsseldorf branch of the Malzer bakery chain, which has around 150 outlets in German supermarkets. "We have designed the bakery store so that the counter is directly opposite the checkout area of the supermarket, for maximum drawing appeal. The bakery-cafe will be on two levels, with a display area and a sitting area, for both over-the-counter and sit-down service," said Steven Koel, the company's bakery sales manager. "The fitting of this first store can be considered a test, if it works well then perhaps we will fit the chain's other stores," he told BakeryAndSnacks.com. Other bakeries the company has fitted include Germany's Kamps Bakeries and Luxemburg's Panelux bakery chain. Berner Ladenbau said it undertakes all aspects of bakery fittings, from design, planning and manufacture of equipment to delivery and installation. Clients of the company include bakeries in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and the UK. The company claims to be one of the few in Germany that caters for the individual design needs of clients. External links to companies or organisations mentioned in thisstory: Hansa Kontor
