A PET/LDPE flow pack laminate supplied by Amcor Flexibles Schüpbach of Switzerland for the Petit Flirt biscuit range from independent Swiss biscuit company Wernli, features a large easy-open 'window' created by contour laser.
Amcor claims that the packaging concept has been created through using the most modern industrial contour laser machinery currently available.
The luxury biscuits are packed in a thermoformed tray sealed inside a gas-tight, transparent, high barrier flow pack (patented by Wernli) and a printed tamper-evident and recloseable carton outer.
The carefully defined, round-cornered shape of the contour laser score makes the window in the flow pack easy to remove in one piece, giving perfect access to the attractively presented biscuits. The high barrier properties of the laminate material, which are unaffected by the laser score easy-open feature, protect the delicate biscuits from water vapour and oxygen, and a special coating gives the product a shelf-life of more than 6-months.
In addition, the environmentally-positive thin gauge flexible laminate ensures flavour, aroma, taste, product appearance and freshness is maintained right up until consumption.
"We believe this is the first commercial flow pack with such a large window opening," said Dr Uwe Obermann, research & development director, Amcor Flexibles Schüpbach.
"This award recognises the outstanding consumer convenience provided by the pack - it is not only easy to open, but also the biscuits can be consumed and served directly from the pack."
