Buhler completes extrusion range with lab tool

Buhler has unveiled the latest model in its range of extrusion systems. The BTSK-30 is a co-rotating twin-screw extruder, which the company claims is suitable for laboratory use and corresponding production capacities.

Buhler believes that this makes its 'toolbox' of extrusion systems one of the most comprehensive in the industry.

"We've tried to create a full line of extruders geared to the synthetic side of the industry," said Buhler extrusion marketing director Andrew Hollister.

"This means that our systems can carry out a range of tasks such as compounding, coding, inline mixing and powder coating."

In addition, the entire BTSK extruder model range is now fitted with aninternally cooled housing. Every housing can be efficiently cooled withwater via cooling bores, which produces a more efficient operation andhigher capacities.

Furthermore, the torque per shaft has been raised to 135 Nm, which is available over the entire r.p.m. scope. The machine has a 37 kW motor.

The housing can be delivered in two varieties: either in standardexecution as mono block in nitrided steel, or in the two-piece execution with wear bushings.

The compact piping system for the cooling of the housing is installed at the side opposite of the operator. This allows full access to the operator side for ease of operation and maintenance.

In order to enable application of the machine for trial purposes the piping for the cooling system is a very flexible design for fast addaption to specific applications. The process section is heated by means of electrical heating shells, up to a maximum temperature of 4500C.

The 30 mm extruder is the first of the BTSK that is operated by means of a touch panel. Buhler is utilising similar control systems with great success for a wide range of machines and processes. In the near future the entire BTSK extruder series will be available with touch screen operating panels.

"Our motto is the right tool for the customer," said Hollister. "With this range, we have the tools to fit the application."

On top of this, Hollister believes that Buhler has solid customer care to go with its equipment. "If you gave me Michael Schumacher's Ferrari, I couldn't drive it as well as him," he said.

"It's about the equipment, but it's also about putting together a crew to support the equipment."

The BTSK-30 will be launched at K 2004 in Dusseldorf, Germany from 20 to 27 October.
