Canbra claims that Eastar copolyester makes an outstanding fit for extrusion blow moulding applications. The Canola Harvest container - extrusion blow moulded by Polybottle - is designed to provide consumers the convenience of portability and versatility for reaching, lifting and carrying the bottle and pouring the contents.
"Canbra Foods previously used a PVC application that lacked clarity and was not recycle-friendly," said Eric Hunter, director of sales and marketing, Canbra Foods. "We chose Eastman's Eastar copolyester material because we required a large container with an integrated handle that retained its clarity, and we believed it was the best choice maintaining the integrity of the Canola Harvest bottle application."
Hunter said that the crystal-clarity of the bottle gives added shelf appeal to the Canola Harvest oil on store shelves, making the bottle stand out against competitive products.
Extrusion blow moulding is a simple, one-stage manufacturing process that allows for the economical production of shorter bottle runs than some other container manufacturing processes.
"Eastar copolyesters are specifically developed for extrusion blown bottles for both handleware as well as custom-shaped applications where aesthetics such as superior water-clarity and exceptional gloss, coupled with design flexibility, drive demand," said Courtland Jenkins, market development manager, durables and food packaging, Eastman Chemical Company.
"Eastar copolyester is useful in a variety of processes and applications because of its clarity, toughness and good melt strength at processing temperatures. Using other materials means choosing between clarity and grip. With Eastar copolyester, you can have both."
While some packaging materials can be made into handled containers, they are opaque or translucent, preventing consumers from clearly seeing the product. Other packaging materials are clear, but cannot be extrusion blow moulded.
Canola Harvest products are manufactured by Canbra Foods, a wholly owned subsidiary of James Richardson International. For more information on Eastar copolyesters for handleware and other custom designs, visit www.clearhandleware.com.
