Dutch cheese specialist Westland Kaasspecialiteiten has specified Amcor's ReClose packaging for seven of its 'Westland' sliced cheese brands sold in Germany.

The easy open and recloseable packs consist of an Amcor ReClose top web printed up to 9 colours gravure by Amcor Flexibles Speed in France, on a rigid base web and packed on a Multivac 530 machine in the Netherlands.

The Amcor ReClose system can be used on thermoforming machines for any shape and size of tray. It has no need for additional foil or film protection, and uses approximately half the weight of film compared to a rigid lid.

Products in thermoformed packs incorporating the Amcor ReClose system can be opened and reclosed a number of times under frozen, chilled or ambient conditions. No knives or scissors are needed and, because the lid remains intact, a perfect reseal can be made, the company claims. The high puncture and tear resistant top web is designed to prevent both moisture loss and cross contamination from liquids and odours.

Hinged to allow three-sided access to the pack's contents, the packaging allows the consumer to keep the product fresher for longer without having to decant it into another container.

Amcor Flexibles Europe has annual sales of over €1.3 billion and manufacturing operations in 14 countries. It offers a range of technological capabilities including state-of-the-art gravure and flexographic printing, coating and lamination, coextrusion, metallising, micro-perforation and pouch and bag making.
