RPC Bebo Plastik is supplying a new 85mm pre-printed polystyrene lid for a round carton tub for deep frozen herbs, part of a packaging solution for leading supplier Eskimo-Iglo, Austria.
The new pack, created for the Austrian market, replaces the more traditional carton box for this type of product, which was found to be less user-friendly for the consumer.
The new tub is said to keep its shape better on the production line while the lids stack neatly for easy denesting and application, without the need for manual intervention.
For the consumer, the lid allows easy opening and safe reclosability, RPC claims.
The lid is fully decorated to the rim using RPC Bebo's pioneering Bebo-print technology. This is designed to help maximise on-shelf impact.
RPC says the success of the new pack has enabled Eskimo-Iglo to gain relistings for these products (there are ten different varieties of herbs) in several major supermarket chains in Austria. Although the 40g tubs contain more herbs than the boxes, like for like sales comparisons for volume and value have shown a marked increase since the new packaging was introduced.
"The new lids for these tubs have been a success story," commented Karsten Kapels, packaging development Manager at the Iglo factory in Reken, Germany, where the herbs are processed and packed. "They meet the needs of the filling process, retailer and consumer and we have been pleased with RPC Bebo's contribution to this important project."
