German health food company WellPlus Trade and US-based firm Science&Ingredients have together developed a functional snack bar prototype based on phosphatidylserine (PS), a leading brain nutrient. The product, marketed under the brand name IQ Boost, is targeted at both the adult and children markets.
The manufacturers claim that the active ingredient in IQ Boost is a clinically proven and safe brain nutraceutical. "We have chosen this ingredient due to its quality soy phospholipids source, the high concentration and its free flowing properties, which make it the ideal choice for advanced bar formulations," said Karsten Pistor, CEO at WellPlus Trade.
"Each bite of IQ Boost weighs about 10 grammes and contains 100 mg of PS, designed to provide the daily intake of PS recommended for adults and children," said Peter Rohde, CEO of Science&Ingredients.
"By reducing the bar size to 10 grammes, it becomes more affordable for consumers, who would like to maintain brain health with the required dosage of the active PS, and it is an attractive alternative to capsules or tablets."
The new bite-size bar comes in natural chocolate, vanilla or strawberry flavour.
