Shell has strengthened its business ties with Angelus, the premier global supplier of can closing and seaming machines, with a new associational initiative for its food-friendly lubricants.
As a result of the initiative Angelus will now fit a plaque on all its new and reconditioned seamers recommending customers use Shell Cassida GLE and Cassida Fluid GL Lubricants throughout the lifespan of its machinery.
Shell says that the move is "a significant endorsement from a key OEM and an affirmation of the fact that its product portfolio and technical expertise have been developed to meet the critical demands of food manufacturers."
Shell's task was to create a food grade lubricant that could offer protection to improve production efficiencies and increase levels of safety. The result was a brand new product - Cassida GLE. Made from synthetic base oils and additives, Cassida GLE has been developed so as it does not impart taste, odour or colour to food, nor cause actual harm to consumers, should any food be accidentally contaminated at levels lower then 10ppm.
In trials conducted by Angelus and Shell, Cassida GLE passed routine testing, with each machine accumulating over 16,000 operating hours without requiring an oil change. Angelus has now begun to use Cassida GLE extensively at the first fill stage in all new and rebuilt seamers.
Michael Bingham, Shell's IOEM manager, commented on the link up: "It's part of Shell's global marketing aims to build relationships with identified OEMs. We're moving away from product supply, to becoming a solutions provider, either through the development of speciality products, or through specially tailored services that resolve customer problems."
