One of Europe's leading suppliers of plastic packaging, Superfos, has redesigned its hot and cold filled food container in an effort to harmonise shelf displays and increase warehouse utilisation.

Superfos says that its re-designed SuperFlex container provides snack food manufacturers with the opportunity of reinforcing their brands in a smart shelf display featuring a family image for different-sized containers, said product manager Michael Stensbøl, Superfos.

In addition, the improved design is said to result in optimised pallet utilisation and thereby a significantly improved warehouse utilisation. Furthermore, it saves time and effort in internal handling since each pallet can now carry 40 to 80 per cent more containers, added Stensbøl.

The design also has a new plastic handle solution with a more solid appearance to provide end-users with the same sense of security as steel handles, but without the risk of activating scanners.

SuperFlex is known in the industry as a plastic containers for hot and cold filled food, as well as paint and other industrial products. The company says that the improvements were implemented without compromising the characteristic cylindrical look of the containers or the easy opening and closure system.

The container range has been harmonised across Europe offering companies the opportunity of pan-European branding. The company also says that all its other product ranges are currently being harmonised in a similar way.

Initially, the new, harmonised SuperFlex design is available in volumes of 3.0 ltr. (ø 194mm), 5.6 ltr. (ø 222mm), 5.8 ltr. (ø 222mm), 11.1 ltr. (ø 266mm) and 11.4 ltr (ø 295mm). Remaining sizes featuring the new SuperFlex design will follow.

Based in Denmark, Superfos is a pure packaging manufacturer and is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of injection-moulded plastic packaging for food and non-food products. With 14 productions facilities in Europe and one in the United States, the company has an annual turnover of approximately €345 millions and 2,000 employees. Superfos Industries is controlled by the Industri Kapital 1997 Fund (67per cent) and Ratos (33 per cent).
