Zip-Pak, the world leader in resealable technology for flexible packaging solutions, has reported that construction of its new multi-million euro manufacturing plant in Winschoten, The Netherlands is on schedule.

Production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2003. The plant will allow European converters, packagers and brand owners to meet what the company claims is a growing demand for resealability in the marketplace. The Zip-Pak resealable concept allows consumers to "zip", or reseal, flexible packages, keeping food items fresher and non-food items better contained.

"European consumers want packaging that can conveniently be resealed to protect the freshness of the products they purchase," said Robert Hogan, sales and marketing director for Zip-Pak. "To meet the growing demand, Zip-Pak is making a significant capital investment in this important region."

The new facility will manufacture zippers that can be applied to packaging films on most form, fill, and seal (F/F/S) and pouch-making machines. The plant will produce a broad range of zipper designs to serve a wide variety of applications.

Hogan added that Zip-Pak has designed its new, technologically advanced plant to allow for significant expansion. "The Winschoten location provides an excellent combination of affordable operational costs, good transportation infrastructure, economic incentives, and skilled labour," he said, "We were very selective about our people and our site. This is a long-term investment and we wanted to get it right from the start."

With more than 200 patented zipper profiles, Zip-Pak, which is part of the the Illinois Tool Works Company, is a worldwide leader for resealable packaging technology. World headquarters are located in Illinois, US.
