Pom juice gets bulb packaging

Packaging producer TricorBraun has created a new 'bulb' shaped glass bottle design for a pomegranate juice product which it claims reflects the unusual nature of the juice itself.

Pomegranate juice is not one of the most common juice products, and that is why a US beverage manufacturer has employed TricorBraun to supply glass bottling that is definitely out of the ordinary.

TricorBraun's customer wanted to market a new type of product - pomegranate juice - and wanted the package to mimic the look of a pomegranate. For nearly a year, TricorBraun worked with the customer designing bottles and providing information and options on both glass and plastic containers.

Finally, a package design was completed that could be run in glass and decorated within acceptable parameters. It is a round container made of up two or three "bulbs," depending upon the container size. The neck has pointed arches encircling it that resemble the top of the fruit.

Ceramic decorating on a sphere was the next challenge. Four passes are necessary to decorate two bulbs in two colours. The other challenge was to supply the printed lug closures in custom colours - a different colour for each flavour. It was a complex project, but now sales are reported to be brisk and the original package is providing an eye catching marketing ploy for the company.

TricorBraun supplies everything for this package, from the two sizes of decorated glass bottles, metal lug closure, shrink band, to the corrugate.

Based in the US, TricorBraun is provider of packaging solutions to the global pharmaceuticals and food and beverage industries, and has major working contracts with every significant packaging manufacturer in North America.
