Pliant Corporation has won a Gold award at the US Flexible Packaging Associations Annual Achievement awards in the Printing Excellence category for the Ore Ida Roasted Red Garlic and Rosemary Seasoned Red Potato Wedges package.
The Ore Ida bag was said to achieve outstanding shelf presence because of eye-catching graphics, surface printed on white opaque polyethylene on an eight-colour flexographic press and laminated to 48-gauge polyester. The package also features Inno-lok reclosable technology that allows consumers to reseal the bag and protect the contents from freezer conditions. Pliant produced the printed rollstock and applied the Inno-Lok reclosable feature in house, by combining the expertise of its Macedon, New Yor and Kent, Washington facilities.
In addition to winning the Gold award for Printing Excellence, Pliant Corporation also accepted a Silver award for Technical Innovation and a Member's Choice award for its work with the Kool-Aid Jammers drink pouch. Pliant produced the barrier EVOH film for the back of the package, which was printed and laminated into rollstock by Alcan Packaging. The clear EVOH film provides visibility of the beverage colour while maintaining barrier properties to retain flavour and vitamins, the company claims.
"To win multiple awards in this prestigious competition, including a Gold award for a second consecutive year, is very gratifying," said Pliant CEO, Jack Knott. "It's an indication of what we can achieve through our commitment to partnering with our customers and demonstrates Pliant's ability to produce the best and most innovative solutions for our customers most demanding packaging challenges."
