Valmet Converting has clinched a new order for its Rotomec 4000-2 ES gravure printing press from Alcan Packaging Lawson Mardon in Brazil.
Representatives from the Brazilian company saw the Rotomec 4000-2 ES put through its paces at Valmet Rotomec's new facility in San Giorgio Monferrato in northern Italy earlier this month.
The new 10 colour press will be used in the production of flexible packaging materials and will have a web width of 1220mm and a running speed of up to 600m/min (2000ft/min). It is a cartridge type printing press with rapid job changeovers.
The Rotomec 4000-2 ES gravure press will be delivered to Alcan Packaging LM Brasil located in Mauà, Sao Paolo, with installation and commissioning due for completion before the end of July 2003.
Alcan's Brazilian unit is one of the leading producers of flexible packaging in Latin America, with net sales of around $92 million. Production is largely destined for food and pharmaceutical packaging.
Alcan Packaging LM Brasil is a long established customer of Valmet, with the first installation of a large extrusion coating line from Rotomec back in 1978. Further investment included a Rotomec 2000 gravure press and a triplex laminator in 1990 and a co-extrusion coating line installed in 1992 in tandem with the line commissioned in 1978. An additional Rotomec SL/SB 700 Series laminator was added in 2000.
The new Rotomec 4000-2 ES press, when commissioned in July this year, will be the fastest gravure printing press ever installed in Latin America, Valmet claims.
