'Long-life' motors for food processing

MTS Systems has introduced a new line of servomotors designed for
long service life in food processing applications, tackling a
problem that has plagued many food processors in the past.

MTS Systems has introduced a new line of servomotors designed for long service life in food processing applications.

The new MaxPlus Food-Grade, or MPF, motors are coated with the DuPont Teflon coating to protect them from abrasion and chemical washes and to shorten the time required for cleaning. Water-resistant connectors combined with potted waterproof cables provide resistance to water incursion.

For approved applications, the new motors come with a one-year warranty and the technology has already been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

"Coated motors used for food processing can have a life span as short as a few weeks and sometimes only days, depending on the application," said Paul Kiner, MTS servomotor product manager.

"These new motors are 'ruggedised' for a long service life the in food processing environment. We have some installed at customer sites that have been running flawlessly for nine months and show no signs of giving up."
