In the US, the Kellogg Co. has announced the recall of 730,000 boxes of Pop-Tarts bakery breakfast snacks. The company warned that the breakfast pastries may contain eggs, a potential hazard to those suffering from egg-related allergies, that are not listed among the ingredients .

The company said:"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product." So far no problems or sickness related to the suspect Pop Tarts have been reported.

The recall applies to eight-count, 14-ounce packages of Kellogg's Pop-Tarts Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon bearing a UPC code of 38000 31110 and a carton code of K-3111D. These batches are thought to have possible traces of egg in them.

The packages were distributed throughout the United States and the Caribbean only.

Consumers who purchased the recalled Pop-Tarts were given a toll-free number to call where they could receive further information and instruction.

The news will come with no little embarrassment to the Michigan-based company, especially in light of the fact that earlier this year it recalled a number of its cereal-related products because of undeclared traces of almonds and milk.
