Finland-based packaging group UPM-Kymmene Corporation has agreed to sell Walki Can, its liquid packaging system business, to Stromsdal and RMG Pointo. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The Walki Can business converts board-based packaging materials and subcontracts and assembles packaging machines. The system concept also includes technical service functions and sales.
The transaction supports Stromsdal's speciality board strategy as well as RMG Pointo's plan to expand machinery manufacturing, said UPM-Kymmene.
The production plants of Walki Can are located in Valkeakoski, Finland and in Steinfurt, Germany. Walki Can employs 35 people.
UPM-Kymmene has consistently streamlined its converting industry in recent years. The converting business now consists of Raflatac producing self-adhesive labelstock, Loparex producing siliconised release materials and Walki Wisa producing wrappings and composite materials. All three companies are leaders in their own field, claims the company.
