US packaging provider Plastipak Packaging has announced the addition of two strategic locations to supply the rigid container market with liquid food, carbonated soft drink, water and non-food containers.

The new sites, located in Birmingham, Alabama and Plant City, Florida, will offer what the company claims will be world class manufacturing capabilities to existing and new customers.

A number of milestone technologies will be utilised at the facilities, including the addition of barrier technology capable of extending the shelf life for certain beverage and food products.

The Alabama site is on 38 acres and will include facilities totalling over 100,000 square metres.

Plant City, Florida, includes 18 acres with a current structure of approximately 30,000 square metres. Expansion of this facility is already being engineered.

Both sites will be in operation during the first quarter of 2003.

Plastipak Packaging is a leading supplier of containers to a number of global food suppliers. The company currently operates 12 manufacturing sites located in the United States and Brazil. The opening of these new sites will bring the total number of operating facilities to 14.
