The University of Florida has said that its newly introduced degree course specialising in packaging currently ensures all its graduates have job placements within the industry.
Currently 10 students are packaging science majors and based on the current job market in the sector, the University has said that all those students should be guaranteed a job.
Ken Berger, one of the programme's academic advisers, said that each year the number of job openings in the packaging industry is higher than the number of graduates.
"The last time I saw (the ratio), it was 10-to-1," said Berger, who worked in the packaging industry for 20 years.
UF's programme took six years to develop and will award its first degree in December.
"We'd hope to have somewhere around 20 to 30 students signing up each semester," Berger said.
The University is now encouraging undergraduates who are unsure of their major to look into the programme because companies have a constant need for trained packaging professionals.
"We're trying to come up with ways to communicate with underclassmen to really try to inspire them and let them know that (college) is about getting a job," a University spokesperson said.
Along with science and technology, UF's programme also requires students take business classes to learn how companies operate.
"What I try to explain to students is that packaging science allows them to get a good foundation for many things," the spokesman said. "Once you go into a packaging career, you can exercise those skills."
