Tetra Pak gets diamond award
taking home the DuPont Diamond Award for its Tetra Recart system.
Tetra Pak, a leader in food processing and packaging solutions, is taking home the DuPont Diamond Award for its Tetra Recart system.
The Diamond Award, the highest packaging honour in the DuPont Awards for Innovation in Packaging, was presented to members of the Tetra Pak executive board at the 15th annual awards ceremony on 9 August.
"The DuPont Diamond Award is presented to the 'best of the best' innovators in packaging," said Tom Powell, vice president, DuPont Ethylene Copolymers. "The international, independent judging panel evaluates the entries by a number of criteria including degree of innovation and potential impact on the industry and consumers. This year, the judges selected Tetra Pak as the Diamond winner for its new Tetra Recart food packaging system - the first retortable carton packaging system on the market."
The Tetra Recart carton is composed of a six-layer laminate structure and offers food manufacturers a new and innovative, retortable packaging option for products such as soups, vegetables, ready meals, fruit, pasta meals, salsa, and pet food.
As an alternative to glass jars or cans, Tetra Recart is lighter, provides an eye-catching shelf-presence and has an easy-open top. Tetra Pak also claim that its rectangular shape provides brand managers with a broad surface on which to display high-quality graphics on the carton panels, adding to its consumer appeal.
"Tetra Pak is constantly working to provide our customers with the best packaging solution in the marketplace," said Hellenschmidt of Tetra Pak. "We already have seen great success with the Tetra Recart system abroad, and this award is a wonderful entree into the US market."
Tetra Pak won the Diamond Award for its Tetra Recart Nestle Friskies pet food solution, the first retortable carton packaging system on the market. The product was introduced in Italy in 2001 and its success has led to expansion in other markets such as the United Kingdom. Tetra Recart also received Dupont's Gold Award in the pet food category this year.
