recognised with a Silver Award as part of DuPont's 15th annual
Competition for Innovation in Food Processing and Packaging.
EarthShell Corporation, the US eco packaging provider, has been recognised with a Silver Award as part of DuPont's 15th annual Competition for Innovation in Food Processing and Packaging.
The awards spotlight industry innovations that utilise innovative packaging materials. EarthShell Corporation was recognized within the food category for the company's environmentally preferable plates, bowls, hinged-lid containers and sandwich wraps.
Entries were judged on overall criteria of degree of innovation, breadth of application, impact on the industry or consumers, marketing innovation of the packaged product and impact of the packaging on consumer or industry buying decisions.
EarthShell Corporation was selected by an independent judging panel representing the food processing and packaging industries, equipment suppliers, academia, the trade press as well as governmental and environmental trade organizations. The awards were presented during a ceremony held at the Kimmel Center of Performing Arts in Philadelphia. The food category recognizes advancements from all parts of the food chain that are made possible, or more productive, by the use of packaging.
DuPont sponsors the competition in cooperation with Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association in Gloucestershire, England and the National Food Processors Association in Washington, D.C. The international competition has drawn more than 550 entries from over 30 countries since its inception in 1986.
"We are most pleased that the EarthShell technology continues to be recognised as a unique composite material made primarily from limestone and starch that offers environmental, economic and performance advantages," said Vincent Truant, president and chief operating officer of EarthShell Corporation. "It is a special honour to be among the DuPont Award winners for innovation and forward thinking."
EarthShell Corporation is a development stage company engaged in the licensing and commercialisation of proprietary composite material technology for the manufacture of foodservice disposable packaging, including cups, plates, bowls, hinged-lid containers, and sandwich wraps.
