Oracle, the world's largest enterprise software company, has provided Agro Marches Internationaux, the leading European fresh food consultant, with software to power a continent-wide information portal for the produce industry, the first of its kind in Europe.

Agro Marches Internationaux provides commercial information to the fresh produce industry, allowing them to make informed purchasing decisions. The implementation of the advanced portal technology in Oracle9i Application Server has enabled the company to provide a multi-region online gateway to manage the high volumes of industry data requested by customers across the Web. The portal built with Oracle9iAS, enables Agro Marches Internationaux to provide a central location where vendors and distributors can trace products quickly and easily, an essential capability in today's produce market as public pressure and European Union regulations for food safety increase.

Agro Marches Internationaux recognised the industry need for more commercial data in the agricultural market and designed an information application called GMS. The initial application was developed in 1996, and based on a series of interconnected databases. Finding it slow and with limited capacity for data storage, the company employed the Oracle database in 1998 to integrate its disparate databases. Two years ago, Agro Marches selected Oracle9i Application Server and its built-in portal technology. Today, Agro Marches Internationaux services the European fresh produce and retail sectors, employing Oracle9i Application Server portal technology to enable secure data exchange and management under an application called QualiTracer.

"We chose Oracle because it offers a solution that can handle high volume and a variety of data types while enabling quick response times through sophisticated analysis tools," explains Regev Yativ, chief operations officer at Agro Marches Internationaux. "In the global food market where access to information is changing from 'nice to have' to 'cannot work without,' our ongoing relationship with Oracle has provided us with the tools to not only service our customers, but evolve and scale our solution to meet their needs."

Oracle is currently working with Agro Marches Internationaux to develop the next level of their offering, which will provide local installation capabilities to produce companies running large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
