A cardboard packaging factory is to open in Chubut, Patagonia, aimed at satisfying the demands of the southern Argentine fishing industry, according to a report from FIS.
The new company, Cartonera Patagonica, was formed by the Uruguayan subsidiary of a Norwegian company, which will guarantee the supply of raw materials, and Argentine companies including Harengus, which will provide the infrastructure made up of a 100 square metre warehouse, equipped with the latest machinery.
The president of Harengus, Mario Ordiales, said the plant needed investment of about $1 million (€1.06m) and would hopefully be up and running in the "next two or three months".
Ordiales said the participation of other companies, a top class Uruguayan box making company, a subsidiary of another Norwegian providing raw material and the most modern technology would make for a successful venture. A smaller Buenos Aires cardboard box company was keen to work out of Madryn, where it already had a client base amongst Patagonian fishing companies, he added.
The aim of the new factory is to satisfy the demand for products from the fishing and export sector in the Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego provinces, while at the same time creating jobs in southern Argentina.
