Rexam Beverage Can Americas has announced that US software specialist Comshare is implementing a corporate performance management system in an effort to improve productivity and efficiency.
Using Comshare MPC, Rexam BCA will set top-down targets from the corporate division's standpoint, then approximately 100 users at each of the company's 17 plants will use the application to create a budget from the bottom up, based on the company's business drivers. Rexam BCA will measure volume, price, customer and product mix, label, business, and gains and losses.
Rexam BCA was using linked spreadsheets first developed over a decade ago to do the budgeting. But the spreadsheet method of budgeting required up to 500 man-hours at each plant to finalise.
"The biggest benefit of the Comshare system to Rexam BCA is the single source of information it gives us to focus our resources on what matters," said Claude Marbach, Director of Operations Analysis, Rexam BCA, "Ultimately helping us improve productivity and quality while managing cost more efficiently."
Comshare MPC's budgeting and management reporting and analysisfunctionality is being deployed to users via the web, connecting Rexam BCA's plants across the United States with corporate headquarters in Chicago. Using the "Balanced Scorecard" view, Rexam BCA senior management will be able to view metrics important to running the company, including quarterly forecasting and strategic planning capabilities that use the application's built-in forecasting and version control functionality.
Rexam BCA is one of six sectors of Rexam PLC a $5 billion global consumer packaging company. Rexam PLC is the fourth largest consumer packaging company and the number one beverage can maker in the world.
